Staff Reporter :
About 20,000 meter readers working under Rural Electrification Board (REB) demanded regularization of their jobs by August31, 2014, otherwise they threatened to go for tough movement including strike.
The leaders of Contractual Meter Readers’ and Messengers’ Okkya (CRMO) made the demand at a press conference at National Press Club yesterday.
Md Mozahidul Islam, General Secretary of CRMO said around 20,000 meter readers under REB are passing insecure lives as their jobs are not regularised.
He said, 60 percent of the employees of the REB are meter readers. But top officials of the REB treat the meter readers as their house servants taking advantage of their contractual jobs. They urged the authority to regularise their jobs from August 31. Otherwise, they would enforce tough programme from September 1, 2014.
