The government is taking the attack on Ghoraghat UNO Wahida Khaman very seriously, and investigation is in progress, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain has said.
“We are taking this incident very seriously. The reason behind this attack will be revealed soon,” he said while addressing a press briefing at his office in the secretariat on Thursday afternoon.
Wahida, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) at Ghoraghat upazila of Dinajpur, was critically injured in an attack by miscreants at her government residence early Thursday.
Local sources said the attackers broke into the UNO’s house at around 2:30am through a window, and hacked at her.
Her father Omar Ali was also critically wounded when he went to rescue her.
State Minister Farhad Hossain said the UNO’s
condition was critical, and she had been airlifted to Dhaka and admitted to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Agargaon.
“The deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police of Dinajpur district have already visited UNO Wahida’s residence in Ghoraghat. We spoke to them a while ago,” he told reporters.
“We are hopeful that we will be able to find out the names and addresses of the attackers very soon. We are watching the CCTV footage collected from the scene. The law enforcement agencies are working on it,” Farhad further said.
Mentioning that this incident could be a case of robbery, the state minister said: “We will find out what happened soon, and take strong measures accordingly.”
