Languages On Signboards
Although the objective of Amar Ekushey is to introduce Bengali at all levels, it is still a dilemma. As soon as February, the month of language, comes, our love and respect for the mother tongue ‘Bangla’ increases. But that love lacks sincerity as the present generation is more focused on the practice of foreign languages for the sake of modernity. Even global recognition did not bring the expected change in our sincerity towards the Bengali language.
On February 17, 2014, the High Court directed to write the signboards of commercial organizations in Bengali. The Ministry of Public Administration also requested the Local Government Department to take legal action against the signboards written in foreign languages other than Bengali. But in reality it is worthless.
