Joy Bangladesh!
Joy midwives
How wonderful it was to read a glowing tribute to midwife Hamida Begum and all our midwives (New Nation 19/05/2022)!
During all of my 45-years I cannot recall anyone or any newspaper praising or even speaking about the wonderful work midwives perform.
Not only did the writer Sir Frank Peters bring to the surface a layer of Bangladesh that had never been in the spotlight before now, but he wrote it beautifully – full of heart, sincerity, understanding and encouragement.
He described Bangladeshi midwives as ‘unsung heroines’ and we all agree. If not for midwives, there would be far less mothers and few babies in Bangladesh.
My husband, family, and I join Sir Frank when he offers a solemn salute to all midwives throughout the nation. He wrote, Joy Bangladesh! Joy midwives, which should become the national slogan for midwives.

It is Praise Worthy
It is heartening to know that in ‘Covid Recovery Index’, Bangladesh ranks first in South Asia and fifth out of 121 countries across the globe.
We must thank the government for taking the right steps in the right time, tackling the deadly disease prudently, which saved many lives and we hope it will remain alert always.
