Sustainable Coastal Embankments
The flood control dams in the southern part of the country were built in the sixties and are no longer able to protect the lives and property of the people of the region in face of frequent hits of cyclones. The dams, by and large, are to undergo extreme pressures during floods and cyclones. The coastal defenses are now dilapidated and mostly useless as well.
Now, it is imperative to carry out the timely restoration of the affected and faulty embankments. Henceforth, the concerned authorities should necessarily come up with right measures in an integrated manner to spend public money only for the public interest, and for the sake of the coastal communities.

Daughters’ Share
Daughters are often deprived of their shares in the properties of their parents, children and husbands in our society. Greed, ignorance and misinterpretation of the Quran’s verses contribute to the exploitation, consequence whereof is ruthless punishment.
The heirs are of three groups. The first one is parents, spouses and children and grand children; the second group constitutes brothers, sisters and grand parents; while the third group comprises the paternal and the maternal uncles and aunts.
1. If a daughter is the lone heir, she will receive the whole estate, one-half as an allotted portion and the other by kinship. 2. If the heirs are a daughter and a brother and a sister, the daughter will inherit the whole estate, one-half as an allotted portion and the other by kinship. 3. If there is a daughter with two parents, each parent will get one-sixth, while the daughter one-half, and the residue will return to the daughter and the father. 4. If two parents and husband of the deceased share the properties, each parent will get one-sixth, husband one-fourth, while the daughter will receive the residue. 5. If the heirs are parents, wife and two daughters, each parent will get one-sixth, wife one-eighth, while the two daughters will receive the rest.
If the heirs are two daughters or more, they will get two-third as allotted portion and the residue by kinship.
I like to finish this letter saying that deceased’s brothers and sisters cannot supercede the deceased’s daughter(s). If any one did it, he or she will be cast into hell-fire (Ref: Sura Nisa: 11, 12 and 176).
