The second edition of the Sheikh Kamal International Gold Cup Football tournament will start in Chittagong from February 18. Eight club teams, including three from home and five from abroad, divided into two groups of four will take part. The home clubs are defending champions Chittagong Abahani, B-League Champions Dhaka Abahani and traditional power house of football Dhaka Mohammedan SC, but the names of the foreign clubs have not yet been disclosed although football federations of Afghanistan, Cambodia, Nepal and South Korea have confirmed their participation.
There is no doubt that South Korea’s sharing will add extra dimension, but we think if a leading club from Iran takes part that will make the competition more attractive for the soccer fans of the country. They will find an opportunity to enjoy an amazing final between the clubs from Iran and South Korea, who are presently Asia’s No. 1 and 2 teams respectively.
Will the organizers through diplomatic channel try for Iran’s presence in the Kamal International Gold Cup Football tournament? It needs to mention here that Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is the architect of modern football in Bangladesh.
