Abbas Uddin, a legend singer

The 57th death anniversary of Folk-lore and Nazrul Sangeet artiste Abbas Uddin Ahmed passed on Friday almost silently, whereas he was a close associate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Once they were going to Ashuganj from Gopalganj by boat enroute to Dhaka. In the boat, Abbas Uddin was singing bhatiali and bhawaiasongs so melodiously that our great leader Sheikh Mujib praised him much in his book ‘Ausamapta Atmajiboni’.
But we have forgotten him, which exposes our narrowness and lack of sense of smelling quality.
On the first day of the Bengali New Year, different socio-cultural organisations chalked out many programme, but perhaps none of them remember Abbas Uddin Ahmed. His son Mustafa Zaman Abbasi and daughter Ferdousy Begum and grand daughter Nashid Kamal should take initiative to organise programme in memory of their beloved father and paternal grand father. May Allah keep the soul of Abbas Uddin in peace.
