Congratulations to Ms Ivy & others
We congratulate Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor-elect Selina Hayat Ivy, her main rival Sakhawat Hossain, other Mayor candidates, all the councillor candidates, who won and who could not, for helping the Election Commission in holding a seemingly free and fair election, which is the earnest demand of the people.
We congratulate the EC, and the local administration in particular, also for their neutral and nonaligned role during the election held on December 22 to the delight of the democracy loving people.
Let us hope for the success of Ivy as Mayor of Naraynganj for the second consecutive term. We shall also request Advocate Sakhawat not to be despaired because he has many more future days to prove himself.
However, we hope the EC would take appropriate action(s) as deem fit as per electoral rules against the local Member of Parliament who displayed his ballot paper showing that he [MP) has voted for Mayoral candidate Ms Ivy to prove his political point(s) in gross violation of the electoral conduct. Stamping ballot paper is a secret act and can not be displayed openly. EC should not fail the test.
Lastly, the people of Narayanganj deserve thanks for their democratic maturity.
