Bangladesh’s first satellite project
The government’s initiative to launch the country’s first satellite project, Bangabandhu-1, to improve communication and broadcast services at a cheaper rate is much appreciated. At present, telecommunications and broadcast services are provided through hiring bandwidths from overseas satellite operators. About $14 million is paid every year to foreign operators only for broadcasting facilities. The cost will be much less if Bangladesh procures a satellite.
Many countries have brought massive changes in telecommunication, broadcasting, meteorology, defence, telemedicine and research through launching their own satellites. Bangladesh is a densely populated country and it needs a satellite of its own to improve the IT services.
