The good side of Public Exams

Recently the government has decided to continue Primary School Certificate (PSC) examination as public examination in the current year. I support the government for such a well thought decision. I remember, when I was a student at primary and secondary labels in the 1960s, many students did not give much importance on Class V to VIII annual examinations in the then prevailing traditional system. We used to put more emphasis to the SSC public examination and were very serious about the SSC examination.
My elder daughter appeared in first PSC public examination. She was very serious and achieved stipend in talent pool category. She was also serious in JSC public examination and also got stipend in talent pool category. My younger daughter, also a serious one, just repeated the record of her sister. Interestingly, the students of Class V and VIII in recent years are giving much emphasis to such public examinations and hence prepare themselves seriously from the beginning of academic year to appear in the examinations. As a result they learn more. In the process most of them do not take the public examinations lightly. However, it has been observed that some students still ignore or put less importance to other annual examinations that they appear in other classes. Thus the fact is that the students learn more when they study more and of course, seriously.
