Zinka technique in Brazilian football
The centenary Copa America Cup Football will begin in the USA the next month with 16 nations divided into four groups of four. Eight times champions Brazil are one of them. Coach Dunga has announced Brazil’s final 23-man squad for the cup sans Barcelona star Neymar but included seven players, who will also be eligible to play in the Olympics at home in August.
Many may think that Brazil will be a weak side to miss the cup, but I think that Neymour has no quality to guide a side to the destination. Rather, I shall not be surprised if they regain the trophy after nine years. It would have been better had Brazil got a new coach and restored pre-seventy’s ‘Zinka’ technique.
Former Brazilian super star Pele said in an interview that the Brazilians before 1970 being physically inferior to the Europeans avoided physical contact with them to maintain fitness. They developed excellent skills, improved shooting power and instilled patriotism.
A colleague of me agreeing with the arguments said, Garrincha was physically inferior, but in respect of skills he is one of the best players the world has ever produced. But the work is hard to accomplish. First of all, a coach of that mentality should be searched out and he will be fair in both players’ selections and judgment.
Brazil are placed in Group B with Ecuador, Haiti and Peru. Although Brazil are a weaker side, they will sail into the last eight to face either Paraguay or Colombia. Now let us wait for the moment. The 45th edition will begin on June 3 and will end on June 26.
