Why Sarat Bose failed? :
The Bengal Muslim League leaders H.S. Suhrawardy and Abul Hashim, and the Forward Bloc leader Sarat Bose began to construct independent United Bengal early 1947, but this received no support from the Congress. Jinnah supported it, but the Hindu members of Indian Legislative Council from Bengal also opposed it. Sarat Bose first met Jawharlal Nehru and M.C.Gandhi. Both of them instead of giving any decision asked him to meet Sardar Ballav Bhai Patel, who clearly said, “Sarat Babu, leave your madness. Calcutta is ours. Join us and give up your plan.”
On the other hand, Muslim League leader M.A.Jinnah said to Suhrawardy, “I have no objection to your United Bengal plan if Congress agrees.” The statement indirectly strengthened the hands of Gandhi and Nehru.
Frustrated Sarat Bose, returning to Calcutta, in a statement blamed All India Congress for the failure of their United Bengal plan.
