Delay in paying retirement benefits of pvt school teachers
In Bangladesh, private schools and colleges have been supplementing primary, secondary, higher secondary and degree education since British-India era. Government of Bangladesh is spending hundreds of crore taka to help teachers to get regular salaries as well. It helped a lot to increase quantity and standard of education of the private institutions. At present, majority of the students study in private schools and colleges. When we look at public examination results, we find that students of private schools and colleges are doing better than the government institutions in recent time. Earlier when government did not pay any salary support to private school teachers, the quality of teaching in general was mostly not satisfactory.
Recently, the media reported that government allocates very inadequate and irregular fund to pay retirement benefits to retiring private institutions’ teachers. As a result, retiring teachers are going home in empty hand and move from one table to another table to get their due for years together which need to be addressed. After dedicating full life to educate student the retiring teachers are not getting retirement benefits is a reasonable short time as is the case with other govt employees.
May we draw attention to concerned decision makers in ministries of finance and education to allocate adequate money to pay the retirement befits of retiring private school teachers within a month of their retirement.
