Football is a game of goal
Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club has, of late, proved it in the second semifinal of the Independence Cup Football on Wednesday played in Dhaka that football is a game of goal. Whereas Abahani strikers wasted about half a dozen scoring opportunities and thereby made sad exit from the competition. They should now practise taking shots into the net.
In contrast, Mohammedan Sporting Club could create just one scoring opportunity and utlised it to the pleasure of their supporters. They will now meet outsider Soccer Club Feni in the final tomorrow (Saturday) in Dhaka.
After loss to Italy in the World Cup Football held in Spain(1982), Brazil’s star midfielder Zico said, “Football is a game of goal.” A former Germany national team’s coach said if artistic football had been the criterion of triumph, Brazil would have won every world Cup since 1930.
Among the Asian nations, Iran can be a potential threat to the leading soccer nations of the world if the team improve their scoring capacities. Iran can finish second behind Argentina ahead of Bosnia and Nigeria in Group F in the World Cup Football 2014 and in that case their second round opponent will be probably France.
What we think about our national team is that the team management should pay maximum attention to discover a real goal getter. No team can surge ahead if the strikers fail to net.
