Security of Boi Mela

This year’s Ekushey book fair has started. Book-lovers wait all the year for this event. Last year, blogger Avijit Roy was murdered in the Mela area which was a great shock for everyone. The authorities concerned should ensure tight security to the entire Boi Mela area.

Offer better train service

Print media reported on February 8 that government had issued order to increase train fare @7.23pc. As Bangladesh Railway (BR) is operating at huge loss and bus fare is much higher than that of train fare, argues BR, the increase of train fare is rational. Train travel is much safer than by road. Lot of people like to travel by train. Most of the potential passengers cannot avail train service as air conditioned (AC) and First Class seats are very limited than the demand. People have to travel by luxury buses paying very high fare and fear of accidents.
After four decades, the government has taken plan to expand and upgrade train services. More locomotive (driving engine), passenger bogies and goods carriages are under procurement process. A losing concern cannot provide efficient service. I would like to advise the authority concerned to procure more AC and 1st Class bogies so that passengers in greater numbers travel by train with comforts. These will increase income of Bangladesh Railways, contribute to reduce loss and offer better and quality services.
