Love for sports
The sportsmen are acclaimed as ambassadors of a nation. As a sports loving nation, we become jubilant when Bangladesh does excellence in any discipline. We are also interested in the world of sports and watch the international events like the World Cup Football, World Cup Cricket and any bilateral series involving Bangladesh.
But sadly we miss the news of most of the events due to our newspapers and television channels’ apathy. The special Copa America Cup Football tournament will be held in the USA next year with 12 nations. It is being arranged to celebrate the tournament’s 100 years. But there is no report in our newspapers except one or two.
On Sunday at Yokohama in Japan, Spain’s Barcelona outplayed Argentina’s River Plate 3-0 to win the World Club Cup Football for the third time.
There was no news of China’s fall from the throne in the World Gymnastic Championship held in Glasgow, Scotland from October 23 to November 1. Japan won the men’s team all-around competition for the first time since 1978 and the United States defended its women’s team all-around title.
What we want is clear. We want our newspapers to report on every discipline and most of the events.
