State of our Cricket

After Bangladesh swept visiting Zimbabwe 3-0 in the One Day International series, the cricket fans expected the hosts to repeat the performance in the T20 series also, but that did not happen. The visitors walked past the hosts’ 136 runs in the 2nd and last match to tell their people at home, “We did not return with empty hand. Give us time, we shall summon spirits to face the leading cricket nations of the world.” On the other hand, the Bangladesh players will now analyse what mistakes did they make that wrested victory from them?
Critics are now saying that unless Bangladesh players improve their performance, harpooning the trophy in the World or the Asian Cup will be far from reality. The batsmen should take it into consideration that one mistake will send them into dressing room with small score or no score at all. But the bowlers have a scope to amend their mistakes. A bowler may give six runs in one ball of an over, but in the very next ball can send the batsman into the pavilion. A fielder should also be very cautious. It has been recorded that a batsman after getting life in the very first over scored century, even double century.
In fact, cricket is a game of coordination and determination. Above all, good captaincy is also a very important factor. West Indies team’s former captain Frank Worrell is the example of an ideal captain.
