Set up a Medical College in Narsingdi

Acute shortage of qualified physician is not new in the healthcare sector in Bangladesh. Huge posts of physicians are lying vacant in public hospitals and health centers. Many people are not getting required healthcare services only for non-availability of qualified doctors especially at rural areas. Narsingdi is not an exception to this problem. The health sub-sector in the country may face a serious setback in future if this gap is not reduced. Moreover, many private medical colleges are running with young lecturers and assistant professors allegedly are producing low quality doctors.
Moreover, it is a matter of concern that students are losing interest in studying Science subjects at secondary and higher-secondary levels. Science students find very little opportunity to be a doctor or an engineer or any such professional because of very limited number of institutions offering prestigious professional degrees. Establishment of more medical colleges in public sector can encourage students in Science education. Such steps are very much essential to meet the demand of qualified doctors.
Narsingdi is an industrial new district. Many spinning, weaving, steel, food processing, garment and small industrial unites are performing in Narsingdi. Except Dhaka Metropolitan City Narsingdi is the most densely populated district in Bangladesh. There is no Medical College in the district to teach heath care subjects. The government should take up a plan to set up a Medical College in the district to provide health care service to the sick people and create qualified doctors to cater the need of the countrymen.
