Film Director Abdul Jabbar Khan made the first movie of Bangladesh (it was East Pakistan at that time) in the year 1956. Its name is Mukh O Mukhosh based on a realistic story of our society. The film was rich in every department such as direction, story, dialogue, editing, music, lighting, photography and acting and it drew the attention of the critics of home and abroad.
Within a few years, some excellent movies like Tomar Aamar, A Desh Tomar Aamar, Matir Pahar, Akash O Mati, Nadi O Nari, Je Nadi Marupathe, Joar Elo, Jago Hua Sabera, Kakhone Asenie, Kancher Dewal, Aito Jibon, Sootarang, Dharapat, Suryosnan created sensation. Zahir Raihan’s Kancher Dewal was adjudged the best movie in the 1965 All-Pakistan Film Festival, while A J Kardar’s Jago Hua Sabera (Day Shall Dawn) won gold medal in the Moscow International Film Festival.
Kardar could not finish his second movie Dur Hai Sukh Ga Gaon (Off Human Happiness). The then government accused him of making such a motion picture as spreading the ideology of communism in the country and arrested him.
We have no information with us about the condition of these movies. If these are saved in good condition by the FDC, the ministry of information may take initiative for screening in cinema halls and by the TV channels.

Simply sign of cruelty
According to newspaper reports, Police produced a completely lame man handcuffed in the court, although the man was not in a position to run away under any circumstances. In another case, Police kept a two years old baby in the thana hajot for 18 hours because his father reportedly fled to avoid arrest. These two events are nothing, but signs of decaying society – a society where there is no right to live happily.
I have no idea about what do the laws of other communities and societies say, but Islam does not endorse it. Such type of work is treated as torture and Allah will never forgive the torturers. Allah says, “No sadden soul shall bear the burden of another,”-Al-Quran 6/165. Allah says in Verse No 42/42, “The only way of blame is against those who oppress mankind and revolt in the land unjustly. There are severe punishment for them.”
So, I shall ask the law enforcers to be cautious about handling with the relatives of the accused and the accused.
