Bangladesh coming up as a football power :
The two good news about football springing on Thursday heralded return of football’s popularity in the country for which we have been waiting impatiently for years. There is no doubt that the Sheikh Jamal Club from Dhaka and the Bangladesh U-16 team have brought gentle breeze at least for fairly some time in the crowd drought football arena of the country.
Sheikh Jamal Club outclassed Casa Benefica in hosts Kyrgyzstan 4-1 in the AFC Asian Cup Football Qualification match on Thursday while the Bangladesh U-16 overpowered Indian counterpart 2-1 in the SAFF U-16 Football Championship at Sylhet the same day. About 25,000 crowd enjoyed Indo-Bangla soccer match and sent a message to the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) that the Green city of Sylhet is capable of hosting any international football match.
One of my friends said, “Do you think that crowd’s love for football in Sylhet will remain unchanged?” I said, “I think so. The current committee of the BFF took the decision a year ago of holding international soccer matches in several cities including Sylhet. The plan has proved successful. Sylhet can verily be an ideal venue of football.
Now about the next matches of the SAFF U-16, we wish our team to become champion and that will infuse new hopes about football.
We want to see Sheikh Jamal Club into the final round of the AFC Asian Cup Football Qualification match where they will have to fight powerful clubs from Australia, China, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Qatar. We want also to witness live telecast of the remaining matches of the two tournaments. For this, the government should have a sports channel and it is possible.
