Acharya Chanakya proved right
Murder and killing, torture of women and children, abduction and acid throwing, deaths in road accidents, extortion and snatching of rights and properties of others, raping and traducing have become unstoppable in the recent days. If a confirmed criminal is not punished, says Jurist Acharya Chanakya, there will be chaos, disorder and confusion in the society The strong will exploit the weak and people will follow the maxim “Might is right.”
Nowadays criminals are so desperate, reckless, daring, arrogant, brute, venomous and revengeful that they record their crime scene and then release on the internet, throwing challenge to the society: Arrest me, if you can.
Loss of ethics and morality, and exempting of favoured men from punishment have been promoting crimes. Political Philosopher R.N. Gilchrist says, law and morality are complementary to each other. Ethics teaches citizens the code of conduct. It shows distinction between truth and falsehood. A state can become an ideal state only when it operates through ideal laws of morality.
Another Political Philosopher John Locke said, the process of punishment should aim at social good. Severest should be given for the gravest crime and light punishment for a light crime. The injured should be treated well. Punishment should be a sort of warning to others.
In the opinion of Kant, punishment should aim at justice.
Hazrat Ali (RA) said, the man who favours his own opinion only stands in grave danger.
