Test cricket getting its pride back
Pakistan finally won the longer version of cricket, as they outclassed hosts Bangladesh by 328 runs in the second and last Test on Saturday in Dhaka. Battered Pakistan badly needed this victory after demolition in the two shorter versions of cricket. Test cricket summons patience, perseverance, concentration of mind and exploration of skills from a player. The Bangladeshi players on average lacked all these qualities.
Shakib’s hurricane hitting (89 runs from 91 balls) in the team’s first innings testifies that Bangladesh will shine more in the shorter versions of cricket. But its future on the longer version yet seems uncertain.
A good number of audiences watched the two Test matches in Khulna and Dhaka. They were calm and enjoyed whole heartedly. The Bangladesh Cricket Board deserve thanks for the attractive series.
Next month, India arrive in Bangladesh to play three one-day internationals and one Test match. Since India are better side than Pakistan, we have to be careful about players selection, planning and execution. In July, we shall receive South Africa, the world’s best Test side. Surely, the people of Bangladesh will be watching their moments.
