Asia V’ball qualifiers in Bangladesh
One of the most popular sports in this land was volleyball till nineties. Hardly there was any village where volleyball was not played. But with the passage of time, it became to fade due to lack of financial supports and patronization at both government and the private level.
Volleyball championships are held round the world almost every month. Asia has an honorable position after Iran finished sixth in the latest World Championship and fourth in the World Volleyball League.
In this situation, Bangladesh will host the Central Asia Zone Men’s Volleyball Qualifiers from May 23-28 at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium at Mirpur in Dhaka.
Nine countries viz. Afghanistan, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and hosts Bangladesh will compete in the qualifying round of Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship.
The 16-team final round of the prestigious Asian Volleyball Championship will be held in Iran from July 31 to August 8.
Ten Asian countries viz. holders Iran, India, Kazakhstan, China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Thailand, Lebanon and Qatar have already qualified for the final round of the meet as per ranking of the previous meet.
The remaining six teams will join the 16-team meet from six Asian Zones.
Bangladesh Volleyball Federation has already started training camp with 16 players for the Asian Volleyball qualifiers.
We hope that our players will do well in the competition to travel to Iran.
