Avoid offensive words
After the fall of the autocratic regime of the military dictator H.M Ershad, a democratically elected government was established, people became very happy because they were able to excise their rights.
I started writing letters in newspapers from 1991 and for the last 22 years I have been writing regularly and I think at least three thousand of my letters have been published. As a citizen of this country I think it is my duty to attract the attention of concerned authorities to many problems which should be addressed, I touched on many subjects, from the hazards of Rooppur nuclear power plant to Sagar-Runi murder and so on.
But now I am in a dilemma, to whom shall I write as the present government was not elected by the people, the way the government was formed is unprecedented. We are in the grip of a hollow feeling and at the same time it seems that a great weight is pressing on our hearts.
When people are still in shock for not being able to cast their votes, Awami League Presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim when addressing AL Council at Krishibid Institute in Dhaka said that, “We have assumed office for five years through peoples mandate and we will remain in office for five years.” He even threatened to cut limbs of those who would create anarchy in the name of movements. We are appalled by this belligerent attitude and how could he say that AL came to power through peoples mandate?
