Sports in schools

When we were school students, teachers encouraged us to practise games and sports side by side with studies. It is because sports develop one’s mind and body. Sports build up relationship among students, between a teacher and a student. That is why inter-school athletics, swimming, soccer, hockey and cricket tournaments were regular. To build a school team, Physical instructors and games teachers were given appointment. They trained us and picked up the best athletes.
We played badminton and volleyball also during winter. As a result, friendly environment always prevailed.
I have seen at Rajshahi University that many teachers used to spend money from own pockets for sports. They created worked to build up ideal situation. Sometimes in 1969, the Political Science and the Chemistry Departments drew 1-1 at group in the Inter-Department Football Tournament. The next day, a teacher of the Chemistry Department and I were crossing each other in the afternoon on the campus. He stopped and said: Player, we shall meet you again in the final.”
This was an example of cordial relationship. Does it exist now?
