The Language movement :
There is no doubt that the success of the language movement laid the foundation of the war for independence of Bangladesh, and, as such, it implies upon all of us to know the history thereof because no nation can survive without knowing its genesis.
In the book of ‘Ausamapta Atmajiboni'(Unfinished Memoirs) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at page No. 91 and 92, it has been mentioned that Tamaddun Majlish (a cultural organization) of Professor Abul Kashem and East Pakistan Muslim Students League formed ‘Rashtrabhasha Bangla Sangram Parishad (State Language Action Committee for Bangla) in February 1948.
Qumruddin, Shamsul Haque and many political leaders joined the Sangram Parishad to strengthen the language movement. In a meeting, a decision was taken to observe 11 March 1948 as ‘Bangla Bhasha Dibosh’. It was also decided that the leaders would visit district headquarters to garner support for the language movement. As part thereof, Sheikh Mujib, a student of Dhaka University at that time, moved in to Faridpur, Jessore, Daulatpur, Khulna and Barisal districts in the first phase of his visit and exchanged views with the student leaders of that time.
In this way, the language movement grew strong to stronger, finally exploding on 21 February 1952. Surely we shall remember Radique, Shafique, Jabbar and Barkat who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Bengali language, and at the same time, we should also remember those, who worked tirelessly to mobilize mass support, and planned and guided the movement to the destination.
