Questionable FIFA ranking :
FIFA have released the new rankings of international teams, and the Ivory Coast and Australia have seen a successful year, winning the African Cup of Nations and Asia Cup respectively, to rise up in the table.
Three times Asia Champions Iran (700 points) are still the best team in the continent despite debacle in the recently concluded Asian Cup Football. Asia runners-up South Korea (608) stand second, while Champions Australia are 4th with 548 points. Four times Asia Champions Japan have been slipped to 3rd position for 605 points. UAE, Uzbekistan and China secured 5th, 6th and 7th spots with 529, 493 and 429 points respectively.
The good news for Bangladeshi fans is that Bangladesh (129 points) have outclassed India (85), Pakistan (85), Sri Lanka (78) and Nepal (55), but they fell behind Maldives (220), who are likely to be regrouped with the South East Asia zone, and Afghanistan (181), whom FIFA has already shifted to Central Asia. Malaysia improved their raking to 154, securing 142 points, winning the Bangabandu International Gold Cup held in Dhaka this month.
In the world, Brazil are still sixth despite winning all the six international matches in last six months, whereas top ranked Germany and second placed Argentina lost more than one matches during that period, questioning the FIFA’s justice in calculation.
Iran, South Korea, Japan and Australia are 41st, 54th, 55th and 63rd respectively in the World. From the Africa continent, Algeria eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations in the quarterfinals are still the best side securing 18th position, two ahead of Champions Ivory Coast.
