President Dilma made it for second time
The people of Brazil gave priority to the country’s economic development, and not soccer, in the presidential election concluded on Sunday. The electorate re-elected incumbent President Dilma Roussouf despite Brazil’s World Cup catastrophe at home in July. They are happy with the economic reforms undertaken in her first term as president of the soccer mad nation.
In 1966, Brazil’s world cup squad delayed to return home following first round elimination. It is because the nation loves football very much. But gradually the people began to realize that economic development of the country and living standard are more important than anything else. And that is why they had elected Dilma again.
Economic development ideally refers to the sustained, concerted actions of communities and policymakers that improve the standard of living and economic health of a specific locality. Economic development means effecting an increase in living conditions, improvement of the citizens self-esteem needs and free and a just society. The most accurate method of measuring economic development is the Human Development Index which takes into account the literacy rates and life expectancy which in-turn has an outright impact on productivity and could lead to economic growth. However, economic development can also be measured by taking into account the GDI (gender related index). By this given criteria, Brazilian President Ms. Dilma could really effect certain upwoards marks in the country’s economic life as well as that of the average masses. It paid dividend for her in winning a second term through ballot of the soccer crazy Brazilians.
