Poor coverage
The Asian Games 2014, the continent’s greatest show and second to the World Olympic in gradation, is underway in Incheon, South Korea. Naturally the country’s athletes and sports fans are keen to witness and know what Bangladesh is doing there and what the other countries are performing there? But sadly the poor coverage by our television channels and newspapers has deprived us from that opportunity. The State run Bangladesh Television, which once used to telecast the highlights of the Asian Games at 10-30 pm every night for an hour, has backtracked from the past tradition.
Yet amidst such utter disappointment, just one TV channel and a Bengali daily remain the sources of getting the latest medal position of the games everyday. We think that the infiltration of politics in sports has spoiled our future in sports and aptitude to present sports news. We need a change of our mentality for better future in sports and sports news.
