Landslide in hilly areas
Landslide is not a new phenomenon in the country as it often causes deaths in the hilly zones especially in coastal Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Chottogram hill tracts and Sylhet areas.
However, no effective measures are seen on the part of the responsible authorities. As a result, on the one hand, the mountains are being destroyed, the environment is being destroyed; On the other hand, deaths are happening. No permanent or sustainable measures are being taken to prevent landslides and evictions, there seems no minimum plan.
If we want to deter the death of people in landslides, we have to stop cutting the hills in any way. Indiscriminate deforestation must be halted. At the same time, alternative accommodation has to be arranged for the people living at the foot of the hill. Only then such accidents will not happen again and again.
