Crime ruins society

Crime is an action that goes against the law of the land, infringes upon the rights granted to a man by the Constitution, defames a religion and makes mishap in the society. Whoever commits crime, it implies upon the State to punish him/her according to the nature of crime.
Political Philosopher John Locke maintained that punishment has certain aims: (a) The process of punishment should aim at social good. Severest punishment must be given for gravest crime and light punishment for light crime; (b) the injured person(s) should be treated well; (c) punishment should aim at preventing the criminal(s) from repeating; and (D) punishment should prove a sort of warning to others.
Jurists Manu and Chanakya maintained where there is no punishment, thieves and dacoits rule supreme there. If the King awards punishment according to the criminal law to impose justice, he is respected and revered by the people. If it is not done, the strong will exploit the weak and people will follow the maxim, “Might is right”. In absence of punishment, there will prevail chaos, confusion and disorder.
Divinity demands that testimony shall be given, even if it is against oneself, parents, children and the nearest of the kinfolk, for the sake of justice. Otherwise catastrophe will drive away peace and happiness from society.
