Rebuild Chowhali township

The river Jamuna, main branch of the river of Brahmaputra, gulped down all establishments of the Chowhali upazila complex during the devastating flood last month. There is no health complex, no police station, no education office, no dak banglow, no LGED office, and no residential quarters right now. The nature has made its mark most heartlessly. Chowhali is now a history.
It was heard that the Water Development Board (WDB) had undertaken a project costing Tk 120 crore to save Chowhali upazila from the river erosion. None can say what happened to the WDB that it failed to save the upazila from disappearance. On the other hand, the Upazila chairman now laments only the disappearance.
In the year 1957, I was a student of Sthall Pakrashi High School in Class III. It is because my father was a thana level government officer and he was posted there. The school building was about 20 feet above the surface and the school had a standard playground. The nearby students used to play soccer mainly in the afternoon. During the rainy reason, the school premises looked like an island. That was a very beautiful natural spot.
The life and living surrounding the Chowhali thana was very beautiful. So, the moment I read the story of devastations, I was shocked. As a former student of a school of Chowhali thana, may I request the government to rehabilitate the homeless people and to rebuild the upazila complex as quick as possible in a relatively safer place.
