People must complete medical test for dengue
before leaving capital to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha
Form newspapers, I have come to know that eminent doctors have called upon city dwellers to remain extra-cautious while celebrating Eid-ul-Azha outside Dhaka. The physicians feared that the disease may spread in rural areas during the upcoming vacation. They suggested all holidaymakers from Dhaka as well as other cities — particularly those who have contracted any kind of fever or cough — to get tested for dengue immediately before leaving for their village homes. At the same time, the doctors have termed the current dengue outbreak “close to an epidemic situation”. They also urged the government to strengthen its mosquito control programme and carry out the activities in rural areas before and during the Eid vacation.
According to a conservative estimation, around 8 million usually leave capital to celebrate Eid festivals with their near and dear ones in the rural areas. So, I think this time it wouldn’t be a different. I wonder why government is taking so much time to send enough number of physicians along with adequate quantity of medicines to the rural hospitals and health centres? Whereas the government is playing blame games, which is unexpected. At present, we need to solve two problems — treat dengue patients and control the mosquitoes.
I do request the authorities concerned to take necessary steps in this regard. The sonner the better.
