Introduce market monitoring system during Ramzan

block
It’s a common scenario in each and every year that, prices of essential commodities, particularly vegetables and grocery items, increase in kitchen markets ahead of Ramzan despite adequate production and supply.
Prices of most common items, such as aubergines, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, sugar, green chilis, papaya, garlic, ginger, and puffed rice increase by Tk 10-35 per kg on average, compared to their prices just a month ago. The consumers have to pay the additional price.
It’s true that demand of some vegetables and food items shoot up during Ramzan. And so, some traders take advantage of the high demand for out-of-season produce during the holy month to charge higher prices. I think, it is not right to take advantage of people’s weakness by increasing the prices of daily essentials ahead of the holy month.
However, Commerce Ministry recently announced that prices of daily essential commodities would not go up in the holy month of Ramzan as there is enough stockpile of daily essentials. The Ministry also said there is no problem in supply chain that is why there is no logical scope of price hike.
I like to thank the Ministry concerned for such timely approach and hope, it would introduce a market monitoring system during Ramzan month, not only in Dhaka but also all cities across the country.
