Safe public transport for women passengers
I’ve to use public buses to go to my office every day. But it’s a matter of great concern that sexual harassment has become a very common scenario in public transport also. Usually, I couldn’t find a seat in the jam-packed bus during the rush hour as none of the male passengers shows the generosity to offer a seat to a woman. Besides, some of the male passengers deliberately disturb the women passengers. But there is none to save them.
The forms of sexual harassment experienced by the women passengers include deliberate touching of victim’s body with chest and other parts of the body, pinching, standing too close to the victim and pushing, touching of hair of the victims, putting hand on their shoulder, touching private parts of the victims.
But most of the women have to keep silent while majority of them move away from the place of harassment.
I do urge the authority concerned to make the travelling of women safe in public transport.
