Partisan referees spoil game
The referees and the assistant referees have disallowed many legitimate goals on ground of offside in the 20th World Cup Football underway in Brazil, which has ultimately changed the course of the results. It is said that the referees and the assistant referees do it to bail out the European teams against the teams of other continents. Not only that, they overlook legitimate penalties for the same reason. Again, they give penalties against the weaker sides on paper.
On Monday night, referee and assistant referee overlooked a handball inside the penalty box depriving Algeria of a sure penalty against Germany. On Sunday night, Dutch footballer Roven earned a penalty by deception against Mexico, which deprived the North American nation of bringing equalizer. Sadly, the referee of the match, who was very close to the spot, ignored Roven’s dishonesty.
Nigeria scored a goal against France in the 20th minute from onside position. Sadly the referee and the assistant referee disallowed the goal. Such wrong decision deprived the African side of 1-0 lead. To say candidly, these three unjust decisions are not exceptional cases but continuation of a mechanism for more revenues. In fact, soccer’s world governing body FIFA has no sympathy for the Asian, African and Latin American teams. It is guided by more revenues and not by justice.
As such, whichever team becomes champions eventually, it cannot be called the best team of the world. Besides, the non-European nations may lose interest to take part in the competition like this in future. As such, we like advise the FIFA to refrain the referee and the assistant referees from playing partisan role because that may be very fatal some day or the other.
