Asian Games 2018: Success or not
The 18th edition of the Asian Games ended on September 2 with six new world records. Besides, 18 Asian and 86 Asian Games records were broken. Apart from the above, one world record has been equaled at the Games hosted by Indonesia. Japanese swimmer Rikako Ikee was announced as the most valuable player (MVP) of the Games
Third placed South Korea broke two world records in archery, Chinese Taipei set up the world record in shooting’s trap mixed team and also tied a world record when Yang K. scored 48 in the men’s trap finals.
Chinese swimmer Liu Xiang broke the 50-meter backstroke record, while Sohrab Moradi of Iran broke the world record in the men’s 94 kilogram in weightlifting. About the team positions, China retained the championship finishing far ahead of second placed Japan, who sent South Korea to the third spot. The top 10 teams are China132-92-65, Japan 75-56-74, S. Korea 49-58-70, Indonesia 31-24-43, Uzbekistan 21-24-25, Iran 20-20-22, Chinese Taipei 17-19-31, India 15-24-30, Kazakhstan 15-17-44, North Korea 12-12-13 and Bahrain 12-7-7.
The region basis gold medal positions are the following: East Asia 168, China 132, South East Asia 63, Central Asia 58, West Asia 29 and South Asia 15.
The sorry part is that Bangladesh considered being a sports loving nation could not secure a single medal-gold, silver or bronze. We do not know when Bangladesh will shine in the Asian sports as the gold medal earners.
