Football League
Dhaka First Division Football League was the most delightful sports event before independence. It continued until Bangladesh Cricket team beat Pakistan in the World Cup Cricket in 1999. That day is a memorable day and it should be included in the syllabus at the secondary level to make the children inclined to sports.
In 1960, Dhaka Wanderers Club became Dhaka First Division Football League Champions, even after loss to Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club by a solitary goal in their concluding match of the league. Azad Sporting Club finished third. The other teams were PWD, DC Mills, Victoria Sporting Club, Central Stationery, EPR, Police AC, Wari Club, East End Club, Tejgaon Friends and EPG Press.
Those who delighted the crowds were Mintu, Nabi Chowdhury, Gaznabi, Ashraf, Samad, Protap, Bashir, Shah Alam, Murree, Kabir, Zaheer, Raymond, Patrick, Zamboo, Pintu and Tipu
But the sad thing is that Dhaka wanderers Club, which was one of the two most popular clubs have almost disappeared from the sports arena, except a club building at Motijheel.
