World Cup Hockey and Bangladesh
The 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup will be the 14th edition of the Hockey World Cup field hockey tournament. It will be held from 28 November to 16 December 2018, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India.
Sixteen national teams divided into four groups of four will contest in the 19 days championship to be participated by, among others, highest four times champions Pakistan, three times champions Holland, defending champions and top seeded Australia, Germany, second seeded Argentina, third seeded Belgium and Malaysia. Top two teams from each group will cruise into the second round.
Once hockey was a very popular game in Bangladesh before and after independence. But gradually, it began to fade due to want of care. In the nineties and just after 2000, the hockey federation took measures to restore to its past glory, but it could npot be successful. Yet we hope that Bangladesh will someday or the other play in the final round of the World Cup Hockey.
