City’s air pollution
Air pollution levels in Dhaka are already high. With uncontrolled emissions from motor vehicles, constant road repairs, and poorly managed construction works, we often find ourselves choking on the road. For those who have asthma, the problem is worse. The air is particularly dangerous for our elderly population and children, who are more vulnerable to respiratory ailments.
Even a few years ago, I did not have asthma. I was a bit allergic to dust, but now, when winter comes, I suffer from severe bronchospasm. For the first time in my life, I have started using a nebuliser. I even take one course of rescue steroid.
New Delhi’s poor air quality makes international headlines now. I fear our city will follow suit very soon.
