Biman be exempted from paying fine
A news item recently published in a section of the press mentioning Biman Bangladesh was fined INR 2 Lakhs for the mistake of two passengers has caught my attention. It has been reported that two Spanish passengers who travelled to Kolkata by Biman had mistakenly reached near to the exit immigration counter at Kolkata airport where they were apprehended by the immigration personnel. Later the FRRO authority fined Bangladesh Biman INR 2 lakhs for the mistake of the said passengers. It may be mentioned here that the destination of the two Spanish passengers was Bangkok via Kolkata-Delhi. They were actually transit passengers.
In reality, it is the responsibility of air passengers to get properly informed about their flight matters while airlines assist them on enquiry. Meanwhile the news also reported that the Biman Bangladesh station manager has sent letters to the concerned Indian authority to exempt Biman from paying the fine imposed on Biman for the fault of its passengers.
We sincerely hope that the competent authority in India will review the matter.
