Immense pleasure :
It gives us immense pleasure that Bangladesh handed New Zealand a fabulous victory by five wickets in their last match of the Tri-nation International Cricket Tournament concluded in Ireland on Wednesday. The win has thereby confirmed Bangladesh team’s berth in the 2019 World Cup Cricket.
Bangladesh now move ahead of Sri Lanka Pakistan and West Indies in the ICC ranking, and we are confident of the team’s miracle in the ICC Champions Trophy beginning in England from first of June. The best achievement of the Bangladeshi batsmen was their professional approach. If they can retain it, anything can happen in the Champions Trophy.
In the competition, Bangladesh have been penciled in Group A with hosts England, Australia and New Zealand. Group B has holders India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa. Two teams from each group will sail into the semifinals.
In this regard, we like to say that the groups have exposed ICC’s unprofessional and whimsical draw. Both Australia and New Zealand represent Oceania and they cannot be placed in same group by any explanation. Four nations represent Asia, three of them are in same group, an ignorance exposure. The four should have been two in each group. We may suggest the ICC to learn from the FIFA many things, including rules of draw.
We congratulate Mustafizur Rahman for being crowned as quality player of the series. He captured highest seven wickets in three matches.
