A three-day long ‘digital innovation fair’ inaugurated in Barisal on Monday morning at Ashwini Kumar Hall of the city.
The fair aimed to ‘reach the necessary services at the doorsteps of people’ for creating accountability, transparency and preventing irregularities and corruptions. The Fair was arranged by Barisal district administration under ‘access to information (A to I) programme of the Prime Minister’s office. Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, director general of A to I programme, inaugurated the fair as Chief Guest.
A discussion meeting presided over by Dr. Gazi Md. Saifuzzaman, deputy commissioner Barisal and addressed among others by Prof. Ziaul Huq, chairman, Barisal Education Board, Abul Kalam Azad, additional deputy commissioner.
The vision of “Digital Bangladesh” is unique as it proposes ICTs as a pro-poor tool.
The digital innovation fair arranged to execute plan and coordinate the ongoing and future activities across various ministries and agencies of the government, the chief guest said.
The fair aims to utilize ICTs as a tool to make government services hassle-free, faster & cheaper, more inclusive reaching that at citizen’s doorstep, he added.
The participants, discussants and visitors of the inaugural ceremony and fair said there is no alternative to adopt digitalization procedures to reach the services at the doorsteps of the mass people.
Introducing and using digital methods will create accountability, transparency and prevent gross irregularities and corruption in public as well as private service sectors, they added.
However practicing and building digitalization mainly depends on the mindsets and initiatives of public servants and public sectors, they observed.
Total 34 stalls including administration, local government institutions, different government and non-government organisations of public service providers including environment, communications, passport, agriculture, forest, fishery, livestock, engineering, health, family planning, education, taxes and revenue, participating in the fair presenting their digital innovations in respective service sectors.

A total of 45 stalls were set up by the government, non-government organizations, different digital centres of union parishad, schools, colleges and banks.
The concluding ceremony of the fair was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Chapainawabganj Mohammad Towfiqul Islam. Deputy Commissioner of Mohammad Jahangir Kobir attended the function as chief guest and distributed prizes among the participant stalls. The fair drew a large numbers of visitors, district administration sources said.
