RDA plans Tk 850 cr uplift projects in Rajshahi

The Rajshahi Development Authority (RDA) has planned to implement some 13 development projects with an estimated cost of around Taka 850 crore.
According to the RDA sources, implementation work on six of thoseinvolving around Taka 350 crore is in the pipeline. Specially, two of those have got approval from the pre-ECNEC meeting while four others will be implemented with RDA’s own fund.
Construction of a 2.2-kilometer and 80-feet width road from Rajshahi Court to Lily Cinema Hall Crossing and another five-kilometer and 70-feet width from Talaimary to Kharkhari Crossing are two of the pipelined projects. Prof Bazlar Rahman, Chairman of RDA, told BSS that construction of flyovers to cross the railway track is the main feature of the Taka 200-crore two projects.
The RDA is committed to ensure the city growth and development in a planned and sustainable way. Besides, seven projects of around Taka 500 crore were adopted and draft proposals of four of those have already sent to the concerned ministry for getting approval.
Construction of a 10-story commercial building in Gourhanga area has been planned with an estimated cost of around Taka 37 crore to compensate the affected businessmen in the newly constructed Gourhanga- Shaheb Bazar road.
Two more housing areas- Bonolata and Baronoi- are being developed at a cost of Taka 110 crore with RDA’s own fund.
Prof Rahman said there has also a plan for transforming two of the city’s oldest streets one from Shaheb Bazar to Court and another from Talaimari to Belpukur Railway Crossing into four lanes besides construction of a new 10-kilomter and 80-feet wide road from Kazla to Halidagachhi in Charghat upazila.
“We have an effective plan of conserving more than 40 ponds at a cost of around Taka 134.38 crore for enriching the surface water resources coupled with maintaining the ecological balance,” the RDA chairman said. With its own fund, the RDA will construct a nine-storied residential and commercial apartment building in Kazihata area at a cost of around Taka 25 crore.
By spending around Taka eight crore with own fund, RDA liaison office cum rest house has been constructed with basement parking facilities in Nikunja Commercial Area-2 near Dhaka Airport.
Side by side with official purposes the people of Rajshahi and other parts of the country can avail staying facilities in the rest house. The RDA will boost its income through renting other space of the building.
On successful implementation of the uplift project, the RDA chairman expected that the existing scenario of the city will be changed side by side with improving the living condition and livelihood of the city dwellers.
Social resistance needed to end violence: Speakers at a discussion in Rajshahi city have unequivocally called for forging social resistance against all sorts of violence so that the country can go forward successfully.
They termed the violence and anarchic and subversive activities as one of the major obstacles towards country’s development and progress and said all the peace-loving people should come forward towards culminating the terrorists and other misdeeds collectively.
There is no alternative to ensure stable and congenial atmosphere for proper functional of the country’s trade and economical activities which is very important for the national growth and advancement, they added.
The observations came at a roundtable styled “Citizens Responsibility to Prevent Violence” held at Master Chef Restaurant yesterday afternoon. Citizens for Good Governance (CGG) organized the discussion in association with the Hunger Project. With Prof Dr Jalal Uddin Sarder, President of CGG local unit, in the chair, committee members Joytuna Khatun, Prof Dr Rafiqul Alam, Mozammel Haque and Pear Baksha, President of District Women Business Forum Prof Rojety Naznin and Rajshahi University Teachers Dr Mahmudul Hassan Khan and Dr Habibur Rahma spoke on the occasion.
During his keynote presentation, Jakarul Islam, Divisional Coordinator of the hunger project, highlighted various aspects of forging social resistance to end violence and destructive activities.
The discussants said committing crime against humanity and unleashing terrorism can’t be a part of any political movement or any political norm. The anti-people and development activities must be stopped for the greater interests of the nation.
