BSS, Rajshahi :
According to its commitment of waste removal as early as possible, Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) removed wastes of sacrificial animals within 12 hours that was midnight followed by the day of Eid-ul-Azha.
“We were determined to safe removal of sacrificial animals waste within 24 hours in the city but the job has been done much before,” said Mosaddeque Hossain Bulbul, Mayor of RCC, today.
He said more than 1,400 conservancy workers were engaged to remove the waste. Under special arrangement, 12 trollies were connected with six engines and around 850 metric tons wastes were removed from all 30 wards through eight hydraulic machines.
The city corporation had fixed 210 places for slaughtering sacrificial animals in the Eid-ul Azha in 30 Wards of the city. Highlighting the aspects of safe and timely removal and disposal of animal waste he said adequate steps were adopted for motivating the city dwellers in this regard.
City dwellers were urged to use only the selected places for the purposes in the greater interest of making the metropolis along with its air and water free from pollution and other contamination.
The citizens should come forward, work together and, as a whole, take the responsibility of building the city habitable. Time has come to prevent the existing trend of slaughtering sacrificial animals here and there, he added.
Mayor Bulbul said collective effort of all government and non-government organizations concerned has become a crucial issue to control the community level disease particularly anthrax as its risks are increasing in the country. “Compared to other countries in the region, the prevalence of zoonatic diseases is not very high, but definitely we (Bangladesh) are exposed to growing risks of such diseases,” he said.
The Mayor, however, thanked the city dwellers for their supplementation towards the city corporation’s efforts to remove sacrificial animal waste timely.
