A journalist has been sued in Rangpur under the Digital Security Act on allegations of spreading fake information on social media.
Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Mayor Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa filed the case against Mominur Rahman Sarkar alias Ratan Sarkar, senior correspondent of private television Somoy TV, on Saturday night.
Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rashid confirmed the matter to the media.
Police said, RCC Mayor Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, who is also the president of Jatiya Party’s Rangpur Metropolitan unit, came to the police station and filed the case against Ratan Sarkar.
In the case details, Mostafizur alleged that Ratan on April 22 spread demeaning, misleading and false information regarding the Rangpur City Corporation on social media and reportedly told the broadcast media that the mayor has been involved in misappropriating public money and was conspiring to kill Ratan.
