RCC Mayor demands immediate gas supply to Rangpur

Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) and valiant freedom fighter Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has demanded immediate supply of natural gas through pipelines to the divisional city of Rangpur and the region.
The Mayor said this while presiding over a views-sharing meeting with the civil society members at his conference room here on Sunday evening to realize the just demand of the people of Rangpur in getting natural gas supply.
The Mayor hoped that the Prime Minster, Opposition Leader, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Jatiya Sangshad, Ministers, State Ministers and Deputy Ministers, Members of the Parliament would definitely express solidarity with the just demand of the people of Rangpur from their own positions for supplying natural gas here.
He also cautioned for paralysing Rangpur though launching greater movement involving the common people to realise the just demand of natural gas supply to Rangpur through constructing pipelines unless the demand was fulfilled immediately.
Councilors of RCC, people from all cross sections in the society including civil society members, sociocultural and human rights activists, business community leaders, representatives from different professional groups, journalists and elite were present.
RCC Councilor Shah Jamal Bakul, Secretary General of City Shop Owners’ Association Rezaul Islam Milan, General Secretary of Rangpur Press Club Wadud Ali, Staff Reporter of Channel-I Marina Lovely, Director of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Enamul Haque Sohel, journalist Siddikur Rahman, addressed, among others.
The speakers explained arguments justifying the demand for supply of natural gas to Rangpur for enhancing industrialisation, employment and economic uplift of the economically backward Rangpur region.
They said uniform developments here have been overlooked over the decades and time has come now to eradicate all sorts of discriminations being faced by the northern people and achieve the just rights and uplift of this economically backward region.
They said gas supply would enhance setting up of agro-based industries like ginger processing, fertiliser, spare parts production, milk processing, dairy, fodder and garment factories, jute mills and many other industries in Rangpur region to boost economy.
They also expressed firm hope that the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would definitely take necessary steps for beginning construction of the pipelines in the process of supplying natural gas to Rangpur region at the earliest.
