Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) here yesterday accorded reception to 2,049 students, who obtained GPA-5 in Primary School Certificate and other equivalent examinations from the city’s schools in 2015.
RCC organized the reception ceremony at its Green Plaza and gave medals to each of the students.
Addressing the function as the chief guest, city Mayor Mosaddeque Hussain Bulbul urged the students to groom themselves properly to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh.
Terming the students as the future leaders of the nation, he said they should be well equipped with scientific and information and communication technological based knowledge to face the challenges of the 21st century.
Besides freeing the society from all sorts of corruption and irregularities the students’ communities should come forward to lead the society in a way so that the hopes and aspirations of the common people are met appropriately, he said.
With RCC Chief Executive Officer Dr Sharif Uddin in the chair, former Vice-chancellor of Islamic University Professor Rafiqul Islam, former chairman of Rajshahi Education Board Professor Dr Dipakendra Nath Das, RCC Panel Mayors Anwarul Azim and Nurun Nahar Begum and Councilors Muslima Begum and Shahnaz Begum also spoke.
Mayor Bulbul advised the students to refrain from all sorts of destructive, anti-social and immoral activities to brighten the image of the society as well as the nation.
He said the city corporation is very much sincere for the development of the city’s education sector and has adopted various need-based programmes to attain the cherished goal.
“We have no way but to promote information and communication technology in every spheres of life for successful economic growth of the country,” he added.
