Razzaque for pragmatic projects to ensure food, nutrition security

Agriculture Minister Md Abdur Razzak said Covid-19 has already caused food shortages in many parts of the world but under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has continued the trend of food production coping with the pandemic, cyclone Ampan and a prolonged flood.
 “Timely and pragmatic projects need to be adopted in agriculture sector to continue and accelerate the production in the upcoming days to ensure food and nutrition security,” he said while reviewing the progress of project implementation under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) through a virtual meeting from the ministry conference room, said a press release.
Addressing the project managers, the minister said that the goals and objectives of the project should be evaluated to see how much has been achieved.
 “The extent to which the projects were implemented at the field level have affected the growth of agricultural production and the extent to which they have been achieved need to be highlighted from now on,” Razzaque said.
During the meeting, it was informed that a total of Tk 2,361 crore has been allocated in favor of 68 projects under the Ministry of Agriculture in the ADP for the current FY 2020-21.
Earlier, the agriculture minister inaugurated the Pabna Regional Office of the ‘Online Agricultural Information Service’ before starting the meeting.
Agriculture Ministry Secretary Md Nasiruzzaman, Additional Secretary Hasanuzzaman Kallol, Director of Agricultural Information Service Kartik Chandra Chakraborty, Senior officials of the ministry, project heads and project directors were present on the occasion.
