Renowned actor Razzak, who passed away in a city hospital on Monday, was laid to eternal rest at Banani Graveyard on Wednesday morning. He was buried around 10:20am.
His first Namaj-e-Janaza was held on the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) premises and
second Janaza took place at Azad Mosque in Gulshan on Tuesday.
Thousands of fans and cross section of people stood in queue from the central Shaheed Minar to Dhaka Medical College to bid farewell to their beloved actor on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and a group of AL leaders paid respect to the actor.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and a team led by Nazrul Islam Khan representing Bangladesh Nationalist Party also paid homage to Razzak.
Cultural and film organisations and personalities also flocked to the place to place floral wreath and to pay their respect. Bangla Academy, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Bangladesh National Museum, Bangladesh Film Directors Association, Udichi Shilpigoshthi, Bangladesh Ganasangeet Parishad and many others were among the organisations.
Razzak was born on January 23 of 1942 in Calcutta of undivided India. He lost his parents in his youth, and studied in Taliganj’s Khanpur High School.
After struggling life in Calcutta, he came to erstwhile East Pakistan to find way of life. Riots between Hindus and Muslims in Calcutta in 1964 also worked against him.
That year, he travelled to Dhaka where his struggle continued. But after his stint in television, he eventually sealed his fate on the big screen.
Razzak’s first big break came with his role in Zahir Raihan’s Behula in 1966.
In his career of five decades as an artiste, Razzak starred in more than 300 films and directed 16.
Neel Akasher Niche, Swaralipi, Jibon Theke Neya, Etotuku Asha, Rongbaz, Baadi Theke Begum, Ananta Prem, Alor Michhil, Obujh Mon, Anarkali, Chhutir Ghanta, Oshikkhito and Dui Poishar Alta are some of the films that helped him emerge as the iconic hero of his industry.
He has shared the screen with many other prominent actors, including Anwar Hossain, Bulbul Ahmed, Sohel Rana, Ilias Kanchan, Shuchanda, Shabana, Bobita, Kabori, Sujata, Shabnam and others.
